1 Samuel 30:7-8 says, “And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David. And David enquired at the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.” It is interesting to note that in Old Testament times Kings and Priest were to be affirmed or confirmed to do things before The Lord. The process of affirmation was done through Urim and Thummim. These were stones that were enlightened inside of the breastplates ephod. The priest would ask if he could ascend into Gods holy place, and the stones would light up and come to a truth that he could enter or not. David asked The Lord, shall I pursue? And God confirmed him to go forward. But now we don’t need these stones because we have the Holy Ghost that will lead us into all truth. After the exile of the children of Israel the ephod was lost and a rope was tied around the priest leg in case he died entering the presence of God without consent. The word “Urim” means lights or manifestation, and “Thummim” means truth. 2 Corinthians 4:2 says “But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by MANIFESTATION of the TRUTH commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.” It is the Holy Spirit who leads into truth. He employs the discerning of spirits to discern or judge the hearts of men. 2 Corinthians 13:5 says “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”
It is here that we have to deal with DID GOD SAY IT OR NOT? IF YOU CAN’T HEAR FROM GOD HOW CAN YOU LEAD HIS PEOPLE? YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE SPIRIT OF GOD TO AFFIRM YOU AND CONFIRM YOU! Let’s be led by God!
