“Revelation 1: 7 says “Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.” This verse is very interesting; in the fact that Jesus includes those which pierced him would see him coming in his glory.
We must understand this verse is speaking of a figurative coming of Christ which took place in A.D. 70. This is not to say Christ doesn’t have a future coming; he does, but the word “cometh” in Revelation 1: 7 is the word ‘Erchomai’ which speaks of a figurative coming; while Parousia denotes the real presence and true coming of Christ which is yet future. The ‘Christ’ who came in A.D. 70 was “The word” of Christ: John 12: 47-48 says “And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.” So, in A.D. 70 Christ, or his word came to judge Jerusalem in their last days. Jesus says in Matthew 26: 64 that the High Priest of that generation would see him “… Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.” Again, the word ‘coming’ in this verse is ‘Erchomai’. The coming they would see was the destruction of Jerusalem. Matthew 24: 30 says “And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn…” If we are to understand that the coming of the Lord in A.D. 70 was his word ‘coming’ in judgment on Jerusalem; then the tribes of the earth mourning are speaking of the tribes of Israel and Judah in A.D. 70. There were still tribes of Israel intermingled in Samaria, and Galilee of the Nations. Zechariah 12: 10 is speaking of A.D. 30 the day Jesus was crucified: “And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they pierced…” The Apostle John records that Jesus was pierced, and that blood and water came out (John19). And the Jewish people saw this. These people would be the generation that would see the destruction of Jerusalem. Zechariah 13: 1 says “In that day (in that day meaning the day Christ died) there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and uncleanness.” Zechariah 12: 10 and 13: 1 are the same event; the crucifixion of Christ. The phrase ‘in that day’ is not really a 24-hour period; but it represents a period of time. Jesus told the thief on the cross “… Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.” It was a period of time. Anytime you read phrases like ‘It shall come to pass in that day’ it represents a period of time and not a 24-hour period; for instance Amos 8: 9-10 says “And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day: And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.” This passage is speaking of two events; verse 9 is speaking of Christ’s death on the cross, but verse 10 is speaking of the destruction of the temple and Jerusalem in A.D. 70.
Zechariah 12: 10b-11 is speaking of A.D. 70 “… and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon.” The destruction of Jerusalem was the fulfillment of Armageddon.
Zechariah 12: 12-13 says “And the land shall mourn, every family apart; the family of the house of David apart, and their wives apart; the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart; The family of the house of Levi apart, and their wives apart; the family of Shimei apart, and their wives apart.”
