Luke 3:1-2 says, “Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene, Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.” Tiberius Caesar ruled from September 18th A.D.14-to A.D.37. So, his 15th year would be A.D.28/29. John the Baptist began his ministry in the month Tishri 10th (September 18th A.D.28 but the new year of the Civil calendar of A.D.29). So, John the Baptist began his ministry in the sabbatical year of 29-30 CE on Tishri the 10th. It was a Shemittah year meaning a year of release, and that is the releasing of debts owed; but the word release in the Hebrew means remission. So, it is clear that John the Baptist was commissioned to Baptize for the remission of sins. Jesus is then baptized because He would bring about a Sabbatical 1000-year release as He rules from the Heavens into the eternal reign of the kingdom! Jesus then reads Isaiah 61 in the temple: Luke 4:17-19 says “And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” The acceptable year of the Lord is to break off bondage! But let’s look at the rest of this verse in Isaiah 61:2, which says “…and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;” Jesus purposefully didn’t say this because he knew it wasn’t time for this to be fulfilled. This part of the verse was going to be fulfilled in A.D. 70. And the other part will be fulfilled when he returns.
